Free Spay and Neutering Clinics Ending in Hollister | News
HOLLISTER, Calif. -- “Pets In Need” is ending spay and neutering services in Hollister due to a lack of funding on April 30, 2013.
“Pets In Need” is a non-profit animal rescue group that provides FREE spaying and neutering to the pets of Hollister residents. On May 8, 2012 “Pets In Need” partnered with the Hollister Animal Care and Services to provide FREE spaying and neutering. At the time they committed $50,000 toward the spaying and neutering of pets of Hollister residents.
To date more than 525 local dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered FREE of charge. It costs about $1,700 every time “Pets In Need” drives to Hollister to provide a free clinic. The costs include transportation cost, medications and professional staff time. “Pets In Need” has exceeded their initial commitment and has spent $118,000 to provide their services to the pets of Hollister residents.
The City of Hollister is grateful for the service that “Pets In Need” has provided. It has enabled more shelter animals to be adopted into new homes by providing FREE spaying and neutering. Spaying or Neutering will potentially decrease future calls for service to Animal Care and Services due to a reduction of unwanted pets in the community.
The generosity of “Pets In Need” and the care for the animals of Hollister is very much appreciated. This vital service will end on April 30, 2013 unless funding can be found.
“Pets In Need” is willing to continue services in Hollister if new funds or donations are made available. Anyone wishing to donate can contact “Pets In Need” or the Hollister Animal Care and Services at (831) 636-4320.
